Miyakojima

Miyakojima
A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Visit Yonaha Maehama Beach and Sunayama Beach for some beach relaxation. Step off the beaten path and head to Aragusuku Beach and Scuba & Snorkeling. There's still lots to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Toguchi no Hama, step off the mainland to explore Shimojiiima Island, enjoy the sea views from Higashi Hennazaki Lighthouse, and make a trip to East Henna Cape.

Sydney, Australia to Miyakojima is an approximately 15-hour flight. You'll gain 1 hour traveling from Sydney to Miyakojima due to the time zone difference. While traveling from Sydney, expect somewhat warmer days and much hotter nights in Miyakojima, ranging from highs of 36°C to lows of 30°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 5th (Sat) early enough to travel to Ishigaki.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Step out of the city life by going to Cape Hirakubozaki and Canyoning & Rappelling Tours. You'll get in some beach time at Kondoi Beach and Yonehara Beach. Step out of Ishigaki to go to Iriomote-jima and see Stand-Up Paddleboarding, which is approximately 1h 40 min away. There's still lots to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Wildlife Areas, look for gifts at Yurateiku Market, take a leisurely stroll along Nishi Pier, and view the masterpieces at Nei Museum of Art.

Getting from Miyakojima to Ishigaki by flight takes about 2 hours. In September in Ishigaki, expect temperatures between 37°C during the day and 30°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 9th (Wed) early enough to travel to Hiroshima.

Grapple with history and appreciate modernity in Hiroshima, a city known around the world for its tragic past and inspiring rebirth.
Take a break from the city and head to Miyajima and Paddle Park. Yamato Museum and JMSDF Kure Museum will appeal to museum buffs. Get out of town with these interesting Hiroshima side-trips: Senkoji & Senkoji Park (in Onomichi) and Hatsukaichi (Itsukushima Shrine, Daishoin Temple, & more). There's still lots to do: take an in-depth tour of Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims, contemplate the long history of Atomic Bomb Dome, pause for some photo ops at The Cenotaph, and see the interesting displays at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum.

Getting from Ishigaki to Hiroshima by combination of flight and train takes about 5.5 hours. Other options: fly. Traveling from Ishigaki in September, expect Hiroshima to be little chillier, temps between 32°C and 24°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 13th (Sun) to allow time to take a train to Kyoto.

Traveling by train from Hiroshima to Kyoto takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In September, daytime highs in Kyoto are 33°C, while nighttime lows are 23°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Thu) to allow enough time to take a train to Kanazawa.
