Enshrouded in lush indigenous forest and surrounding a scenic lagoon of the same name, the Garden Route town of Knysna has plenty to offer.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Garden Route (Tsitsikamma, Knysna, Wilderness) National Park and Elephant Sanctuary. Take a break from the city and head to Featherbed Nature Reserve and Adrenaline & Extreme Tours. Step out of Knysna with an excursion to Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary in The Crags--about 38 minutes away. There's still lots to do: stroll through Brenton on Sea, enjoy the sand and surf at Buffalo Bay, explore the activities along Knysna Lagoon, and pause for some serene contemplation at Holy Trinity Church.
