Proud of their hometown's distinct culture and dialect, many natives of Osaka describe their city as "Japan's anti-capital." An antidote to Tokyo's hectic energy, Osaka marches to the beat of its own drum, serving as the country's longtime commercial and industrial hub.
Escape the urban bustle at Nara Park and Disaster Reduction and Human Renovation Institution. Get some historical perspective at Osaka Castle and Todai-ji Temple. Venture out of the city with trips to Mt. Koya (in Koya-cho) and Sarusawa Pond (in Nara). There's still lots to do: get a taste of the local shopping with Dotonbori, take a stroll through Shinsaibashi, and get in on the family fun at Universal Studios Japan.

Singapore, Singapore to Osaka is an approximately 10-hour combination of flight, train, and subway. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of car and ferry. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 1 hour traveling from Singapore to Osaka. Plan for colder temperatures traveling from Singapore in December, with highs in Osaka at 13°C and lows at 4°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 7th (Fri) to allow enough time to take a train to Kyoto.

Kyoto
The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Gion and Kiyomizu-dera Temple are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Popular historic sites such as Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Nijo-jo Castle are in your itinerary. There's still lots to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Kinkaku-ji, take in nature's colorful creations at Shosei-en Garden, browse the different shops at Kyoto Station Building, and don't miss a visit to Nishiki Market.
