Founded when gold was discovered in the area in the late 19th century, Johannesburg quickly grew into a bustling metropolis, South Africa's largest city and the region's economic hub.
On the 21st (Fri), find something for the whole family at Gold Reef City. Here are some ideas for day two: examine the collection at Apartheid Museum and then Head underground at Wild Cave Adventures.

Enshrouded in lush indigenous forest and surrounding a scenic lagoon of the same name, the Garden Route town of Knysna has plenty to offer.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Wilderness Beach and Outeniqua Transport Museum. Visiting Lawnwood Snake Sanctuary and Parasailing & Paragliding will get you outdoors. Get out of town with these interesting Knysna side-trips: Zorgfontein Game Farm (in Great Brak River) and Garden Route Wolf Sanctuary (in Plettenberg Bay). It doesn't end there: identify plant and animal life at Knysna Elephant Park.

You can do a combination of flight and taxi from Johannesburg to Knysna in 5 hours. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Johannesburg in July, plan for a bit warmer nights in Knysna, with lows around 12°C. Drive from Knysna to Robertson in 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and taxi. Traveling from Knysna in July, expect a bit cooler with lows of 7°C in Robertson. Finish your sightseeing early on the 27th (Thu) so you can drive to Cape Town.
