Chapman's Peak Drive Reviews
The landscape is wonderful with great ocean and mountain views; a great drive but note there is a small toll to pay. We came down the coast on the east and went back on the west side of the peninsula.... more »
It is a toll road, you will pay to pass through: 47 ZAR But: DO IT, it is one of the most scenic roads with great views over Hout Bay.. We passed by at sunset.. & what a view.. Amazing.. more »
I'm not sure how to rate this drive. It was possibly one of the scariest experiences of my entire life and I've skydived. I DO NOT like heights and I honestly do not know how I got through this without having a heart attack. I had heard about this road but didn't quite know what to expect and joined it more out of accident than desire. It's safe to say I will never ever be driving this route again. If you are more inclined for thrills and are not afraid of heights then I would certainly recommend, but if you are in any way put off by heights then do whatever you can to avoid it!! I barely took my eye off the road to check but I believe my wife commented that the views were spectacular. I'm not sure if I'd take this drive again even as a passenger.
This route is arguably one of the most beautiful routes to drive in the Western Cape. The route meanders along the cliff-face between Houtbay and Noordhoek and has a toll-fee of R 47.00 per car (subject to change). There are numerous viewing points and picnic areas where you can pull over next to the road and take beautiful photos. Also, some of the picnic areas have ablution facilities available.
