  • South African history is not simple... this museum traces very well the arrival of the Dutchs of the Indian Company; what they have been through, what they have put in place for their survival and their difficulty in settling down. The lady at the entrance tells the story very well. Very interesting.

  • Swellendam is a cute little place, but if you have seen the main street with its many beautifully preserved thatched roof houses and the quite bombastic church, you get the idea to go to the museum again. And this museum had surprisingly much to offer. First of all, a receptionist who, after paying the narrow 30 edge entrance fee, has already told us a lot of things about the history of South Africa and Swellendam. And that in a very nice way, we really liked it very much. Then we looked at the museum in the Drostdy, there was a lot of interesting things to see, old furniture, old clothes, furnishings and also a list of all the surviving old houses with picture and owner, very interesting. However, the museum also includes other facilities: a carriage hall right next door. Across the street is the former prison with a whole series of craft businesses and a mill in a kind of museum village and other buildings that are worth looking at. We were on the road for about 90 minutes and were very excited. By the way, photography is expressly permitted.
