Rising from a rocky outcrop over a bustling harbor, Cape St Blaize Lighthouse offers dramatic views of the bay and the coastline. Built in 1864, this elegant white, Victorian tower remains a favorite post of the South African light-keepers due to the proximity of the town. Take a short hike up the hill to reach the lighthouse and you might meet African rodents--dassie rats--along the way. A cave carved in a cliff under the lighthouse, which was once home to Khoikhoi hunter-gatherers, exhibits some interesting historical facts and fossils found in the area. Cape St Blaize Lighthouse Reviews
Good walk on a clear day up to the lighthouse. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes. Walk up to the cave and read about the history of the first cave dwellers and then walk up to the lighthouse... more »
We didn't make it up to the lighthouse due to the bad weather but we've been amazed by the funny creatures that hang in the rocks at the parking lot! more »
Beautiful views of the bay below. The lighthouse was nice although we did not go up so don't know if it's free. There is a picnic table for a quick snack and some information on other lighthouses in south Africa that are interesting should you be interested in lighthouses. At this point you can join the cliff trail that comes from the beach area but it is not well kept the path you need to walk to get to it, so be cautious. We saw some little animals that were very cute. Overall a nice place to visit for free.
Looks nice from the outside but we could not visit the lighthouse. We arrived on a friday at 13:30 and it was closed although one sign at the gate said 10-15 and another sign at the driveway said 10-12:30 and 13-15. Also there are no signs that lead you to the lighthouse when you approach it by foot from the waterfront. The only way up is a steep unmarked path or the road.
