Isandlwana Battlefield, Isandlwana

Isandlwana Battlefield represents the site of the first major engagement of the Anglo-Zulu War. The well-preserved battleground features a memorial erected to commemorate fallen warriors. At this site, a superior British force invaded Zulu Kingdom and suffered a major defeat against an indigenous foe wielding inferior military technology. This resulted in the British launching a second, more ferocious invasion against the Zulus. • Waited over 50 years to walk this famous battlefield from the Anglo Zulu War of 1879. The trip was a great success and the experience took my breath away, especially when walking the Fugitives Trail.  more »
  • We had an excellent local guide who spent an hour giving us a very detailed history of the site. Very moving, and in a really beautiful spot. It is very open so take water, sun cream and a hat.  more »
