Signal Hill, Cape Town Central

4.6
#2 of 179 in Wildlife in Cape Town
Drive to Signal Hill for panoramic views of Cape Town, including Table Mountain and Robben Island. You can reach the hilltop on a short, picturesque drive from town, and once there, have a picnic, hike up to the adjacent Lion's Head Hill, or take a romantic evening walk for a chance to capture some unforgettable sunset images. Wandering the plateau, you'll come across a number of "kramats," sacred tombs dedicated to various Muslim missionaries. Signal Hill is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our online itinerary creator, Cape Town Edition.

  • Lightweight coats even in the summer, windy and it's cold. The sunset is wonderful and you can get uber, track or bus tour.

  • A very beautiful spot and one of must see / to do in Cape Town. You will enjoy the Sunset viewing Lions Head (Bo kaap & Clifton Beach) and Sunrise view The Table Mountain. Great weather but sometime is windy (Mother nature) during early morning.
  • Fantastic place to enjoy the sunset. The view from this place is amazing. Parking lot is quite small so just make sure to come early enough. There are couple of small shops if you want to have a snack or a drink but most of the people are bringing food or drinks. You can easily combine this visit after you take the cable car from Table Mountain.
  • Probably the most famous spot for a Sundowner. It is a mountain but rather than hike, most people choose to drive up. You can walk up but it'll be on the roadway. It's free for everyone. You get a great view of the Cape Town city, Table Mountain and Lions head. A very nice place to go relax with family or your significant other. The night view of the city here is amazing too as well as the sunset. Just be careful as sometimes it can be very windy up there and you hat/cap can fly off. When you see the mountains in Cape Town, at first you think everything is Table Mountain. But later you learn that it is Table Mountain, Lion's head and Signal Hill. You know you want to visit each and every mountain. Well, Signal hill is a must and worth visiting. Easy to access and worth the views. Just note that if you're a learner driver or not used to the right hand drive, it might be a little dangerous at night as the roads don't have any real barricading. If you go off track, it is a long way down.
  • We visited in winter and it got very windy and chilly after sunset. There is almost 360-degrees view of Cape Town up here. Most people drive up the hill, although we passed a couple of cyclists and joggers during the climb. We managed to see the city slowly illuminated into the evening. Signal Hill is like the younger brother of Table Mountain -- it is much more accessible and affordable (well, it's free).
  • Went to watch the sunset. Unbelievable experience. The view you can't describe. Must see it to believe it. Tourists were overcome with emotion watching the sunset. Couples enjoying a glass of wine. Bring your picnic basket.
