Shahastrabahu Temple, Gwalior

4.4
The magnificent twin-temple complex of Shahastrabahu Temple displays rare architectural brilliance with masterfully carved facades. Built in 1092 on a 32x22 m (104 x 72 ft) base, the temple sits on the banks of lotus-covered Lake Bagela, offering a scenic view of the city of Gwalior. Not in use for worship, the site offers serenity without rituals or festivities. Roam around freely and admire the masterfully carved edifice, including idols of Saraswati, Brahma, and the 1,000-armed Lord Vishnu. Enhance your visit by hiring a guide on site to explain the images and painstakingly restored architecture. • On the outskirts of Nagda you have to visit these ancient temples, in ruins (9th century) of SAS and BAHU (known as the temples of the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law ... and the quarrelsome story that is handed down is long to tell).) In fact, it is a Hindu shrine dedicated to the god Sri Visnu (the one with many hands), with extraordinary architecture, adorned with sculptures, bas-reliefs, reliefs, embroidery, decorations and details of impressive artistic value, many chiseled, carved, Perforated. But the attraction, curious and itchy, is the representation of couples of lovers and the captivating erotic tablets of which are adorned the walls of the temple of the "daughter" an explicit and detailed kamasutra; and here the fantasy could lead us to speculate if the end was, mutually, indoctrination for the young bride (which is bold but also "laudable") or on the contrary, a wicked "insulting" qualification. Admission is free.

  • beautiful Hindu temple that should be seen during the stop in Gwalior (city that I reached by train coming from Agra) and that represents the typical Hindu architecture. The temple is dedicated to the Gospel God and is preserved very well
