The Shanghai Tower is a 632m, 128-story megatall skyscraper in Lujiazui, Pudong, Shanghai. As of 2015, it is the world's tallest building, by height to highest usable floor (Level 127, 587.4 m). It also has the world's highest observation deck within a building or structure (Level 121, 561.25 m), and the world's fastest elevators at a top speed of 20.5 m/s (74 km/h; 46 mph ). It is the world's second-tallest building by height to architectural top (behind Dubai's Burj Khalifa, 828 m) and the world's third-tallest structure (behind Tokyo Skytree, 634 m).
Designed by international design firm Gensler and owned by the Shanghai city government, it is the tallest of the world's first triple-adjacent super-tall buildings in Pudong, the other two being the Jin Mao Tower and the Shanghai World Financial Center. Its tiered construction, designed for high energy efficiency, provides nine separate zones divided between office, retail and leisure use.
Construction work on the tower began in November 2008 and topped out on 3 August 2013. The exterior was completed in summer 2015, and work was considered complete in September 2015. Although the building was originally scheduled to open to the public in November 2014, the actual public-use date slipped considerably. The observation deck was opened to visitors in July 2016; the period from July through September 2016 was termed a "test run" or "commissioning" period. From April 26, 2017 onwards, the sightseeing deck on the 118th floor is open to the public.

  • What a fun and exhilarating experience going up and down the elevator of one of the tallest building in the world. The views are breathtaking.  more »
  • A once in a life-time experience. The queue may be long but it is worth it. The elevator is also an experience. And the glass floor ....!  more »

  • Unforgettable experience! Even though this is the second highest building of the world, and I have been to the world’s highest in Dubai, the Shanghai Tower is so different. The views are mindblowing! Just next to you you have the Pearl tower, the ‘bottle opener’ which seem rather small when you are in the Shanghai Tower. The elevator is also considered as world’s fastest and you are just being catapulted to the top. The price is definitely worth it! Funny experience, they take a picture of you with a background at the ground floor saying you will get a free picture upstairs. The picture you get for free is just without a background, quite silly. With the background you need to buy at a high price.
  • Amazing fear of architecture. The observation desk is 119 storeys up. This building is an incredible architectural marvel. The observation deck at the top of the tower is served by three ultra-high speed shuttle elevators made by Mitsubishi Electric which travel at 18 metres per second (40 mph), the highest speed yet employed for commercial building use.
